Narnia: “By Jove” Localization in Spanish

Last week I finished the first half of CS Lewis’s “El León, La Bruja,y El Ropero” (or the “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) in Español from the Chronicles of Narnia series.

In this most recently school year, I taught the English version of the book to our third graders using the books and study guides from Memoria Press, so the material is still fairly fresh in my mind. I also went through any difficult or unusual vocabulary rather...

Mankind in Adam is dead & Mankind in Jesus is Born Again

A new MP3 sermon from Saint Paul’s Anglican Church is now available on SermonAudio with the following details:

The analogy is simple in that both the humanity of Adam and the humanity of Christ were made by God in special ways. They were both miraculous births by God’s intimate intervention. Both made from the uncorrupted materials: the man Adam is made of pre-curse dirt and the man Jesus is made from a virgin womb. For our salvation, mankind was born again.

Launching Canterbury Theological Library, Los Altos, CA

Western Seminary has gifted us the library from their former San Jose campus. I’m very excited to have acquired over 3,000 books plus book carts and double-sided shelving.

Setting up our small theological library will be an exciting project.

Here are some steps that come to my mind as I am working through the process to make the books available for our community:

    Assessing the collection:
We have a general inventory of the 3,000+ books in an excel spreadsheet. I will...

    My Ancestry.com’s DNA Results

Studying my own ancestral origins has always been a fascinating endeavor. While both of my parents’ birth certificates indicate “white” as their ethnicity, their individual family trees are a bit more complicated.

My mother, with her name Thora, carries a strong connection to her Swedish heritage. My father’s identity has been shaped by his Mexican heritage, evident in his dark complexion. While my grandparents spoke Spanish fluently, my father was discouraged from learning and I didn’t start studying the language...

Officer – Overseer in KRS-One’s “Sound of da Police” – Psuedo-Etymological Fallacy

    Officer/Overseer Psuedo-etymology

KRS-One is an Bronx rapper famous for his political and social commentary infused lyrics. One of his more controversial songs was “Sound of da Police” (1994) which builds from the anti-police rhetoric common the late 80s and early 90s rap music. It was released just six years after the Compton, CA based NWA made headlines after their more explicit “F*** tha Police” (1988) and two years after the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles. KRS-One compares police officers...

A Day at Stanford Hospital (Palo Alto, CA) with the Spiritual Care Team

In the heart of Silicon Valley, amid the bustling city of Stanford, a remarkable journey of service and compassion unfolds every day. Kafunyi Mwamba, a recent visitor to Saint Paul’s Los Altos, wears multiple hats in the community. He also serves as the Volunteer Coordinator and Palliative Medicine Chaplain at Stanford Hospital. During a visit back in 2020, I was able to witness Kafunyi’s profound commitment to caring for the sick, the suffering, and the dying, and how his role...
